Let Go
Written by Brian Kittrell · This Long Broken Road
The Story Behind the Song
The line 'To live in the hearts of others is to never die' is my own adaptation of the epitaph on my grandparents' tombstone: 'To live in the hearts of those we leave behind is not to die.' I never met my grandfather, Pete Walker, who drowned years before I was born, but I miss my grandmother, Alice Faye Walker, every single day. Let Go is dedicated to them. It's written as a 'voice from the grave,' a message of comfort from the ones who've gone before us. For me, it's a way of carrying their love forward. For others, I hope it serves as a reminder that the ones we've lost live on inside us, in memory and in heart.

Lyrics
I lay beside still waters under a deep blue sky, And the only sound is a breeze passing by. My burdens are over, now dry your eyes, To live in the hearts of others, is to never die. You gotta be strong, gotta let go, I’ll always love you, I want you to know. But I can’t be there, I just couldn't go on, Live for me, and we'll meet again. It won't be too long. Words unsaid and songs left unsung, The dreams we hoped for, now undone. Your hands must carry what we started, Pick it up and keep on from where we parted. You gotta be strong, gotta let go, I’ll always love you, I want you to know. But I can’t be there, I just couldn't go on, Live for me, and we'll meet again. It won't be too long. Your heart keeps breaking right along with mine, I'd give my soul to see you one more time, But one day I promise you’ll see the sun shine. I can't walk beside you and show you the way, But don't let darkness steal the light from your days. You gotta be strong, gotta let go, I’ll always love you, I want you to know. But I can’t be there, I just couldn't go on, Live for me, and we'll meet again. It won't be too long. I lay beside still waters under a deep blue sky, And the only sound is a breeze passing by. My troubles are over, now dry your eyes, To live in the hearts of others, Is to never die. I'm beside those still waters under that deep blue sky, And the only sound is a breeze passing by. My burdens are over, so go dry your eyes. Always remember and keep it inside: To live in the hearts of others, Is to never die.
